About 30% of a home’s heating energy is lost through windows. In cooling seasons, about 76% of sunlight that falls on standard double-pane windows will enter to become heat (Department of Energy).
Automated window attachments may increase energy savings and comfort even more by allowing you to schedule opening and closing of the window coverings which in turn, optimize their performance. A variety of product types such as shades, screens, awnings, shutters, and draperies can be automated.
Maximize the benefits of window coverings
Automated products provide maximum energy savings and comfort as they can be programmed for specific times of the day. These products are recommended for out of home absences, hard to reach windows, homes with small children, and for those with hot or cold climates.
Residential and commercial window attachments can be motorized, automated, and integrated with smart home technologies or energy management systems in a commercial setting.
Integrated technology
Shades can be scheduled and accessed through manufacturers’ apps or integrate with smart home technologies, including Amazon Alexa, IFTTT, Nest, Google Assistant, Control4, and others, to be programmed for weather, temperature, sunrise/sunset, and other criteria.
To get the most out of your AERC certified automated window coverings, follow the AERC Automation Schedule for cool and warm climates.
Look for the AERC label
For window attachments that are automated, the label will indicate the improved energy rating with automation to the right of the energy rating number. This shows what the product’s energy rating is if used with automation.
